318 Philosophy:

Independent coffeehouses are about more than just coffee. They are a place for people to meet, to discuss life-happenings, to plan the next big adventure, to create something, to strum the house guitar, to sit quietly with someone, to start a revolution.

Our coffeehouse is a community staple. Established in 2005, it is a welcoming environment with awesome locally roasted Metropolis espresso & coffee, fresh pastries and homemade gelato made entirely on-site, chocolate fondue, sandwiches & salads during lunchtime made with the freshest ingredients and homemade breads. We support local artists and have a different art exhibit every month and live music outside on our patio. We were voted Best Independent Coffeehouse in 2011 & 2013.

We are family run, and we love being a part of this community.

Our Espresso Philosophy

We believe the essence of coffee comes from tension; tension between the hardness of the bean and the heat of the roaster, between the pressure of water in the machine and the dense pack of the fine grind. Reward is finer when earned, and coffee is sweeter when challenged.

Our coffee aesthetic is rooted in the belief that great coffee comes from a line of respect beginning with the farmers and their respect for their land. We, in turn, respect the farmers by paying fair prices for their harvest, and respect our customers by taking great care in the roasting and brewing of our coffees. Respect is at the core of our coffee philosophy, and taste is paramount.

Metropolis Coffee Company is our small batch roaster, located in downtown Chicago. They roast to order and you will not find fresher roasted coffee beans anywhere. They are huge coffee geeks, just like our amazing staff!
